3rd Grade Curriculum
Language Arts
We utilize a variety of novels and short stories that support the common core standards, the Houghton Mifflin textbook, non-fiction reading, and the science and social studies curriculum. Students learn how to write multi-paragraph essays in three genres: narrative, informative/explanatory writing, and persuasive/opinion writing. In addition, the students will learn report writing and writing is practiced in all content areas.
Mathematics
Our math program is Eureka Math supported through Zearn Digital Math Lessons while at home.
Science
Our science program is the hands-on program provided by FOSS, Mystery Science, and Daily Science aligned to NGSS. Students will learn three units: Earth Science, Physical Science, and Life Science.
Social Studies
The focus of Third Grade Social Studies is our local area and California history. Our primary resource is California Third Grade Community Studies Weekly. Our Social Studies projects allow us to incorporate art, writing and technology into the curriculum.
Technology
Students have one-to-one technology in all Third Grade classes. Each student is assigned a Chromebook and completes Common Sense Media curriculum about Digital Safety and Responsibility.
Physical Education
We have PE weekly. We work on specific sports skills, physical conditioning, and sportsmanship. Tennis shoes are highly recommended.
Art, Music and Theater
Weekly classes and in-class projects are part of our Visual and Performing Arts curriculum.
